Salvo Real Estate

Salvo, NC, originally called Clarks or Clarksville as legend has it, is a tiny fishing community located just south of Rodanthe and Waves on Hatteras Island of North Carolina’s Outer Banks. Because of its small nature, Salvo is often clumped together with the neighboring Rodanthe and Waves communities and is considered to be a top destination for birdwatching, camping, fishing, boating, and of course its seemingly endless coastline of white, sandy beaches. Like its northern counterparts, Route 12 is the only major thoroughfare running through Salvo, North Carolina with less than a handful of stores, shops, and local businesses occupying the main drag. In all, the Fishin’ Hole—which also doubles as sort of a convenience store—the Salvo Inn Motel, and the Blue Whale Gas Station basically make up this small, sleepy Oceanside community with the remaining land occupied by single-family homes and rentals that are mainly only used during the summer months.

If you think Rodanthe and Waves, NC have a quiet, unassuming feel, Salvo takes that serine feeling to a whole new level. But with this tranquil atmosphere comes one very desirable amenity: peace and quiet. It’s not uncommon to spend an entire day walking the beaches of Salvo, NC and see very little action or movement around you. Most people who use and occupy the Salvo beaches are fishing for crab or just trying to enjoy the relaxing vibe that this tame Outer Banks community is known for. What little commerce is in Salvo, most business-owners shut up shop during the winter, so keep this in mind when considering a full-time home for sale in the area. If a rental property or affordable vacation home that is all about the wildlife and North Carolina outdoors is what you’re after, however, Salvo real estate may just be the perfect fit.
